DEI 689M - Neutral Safety Module for Manual Transmissions
Remote Starters have traditionally been designed for use in fuel injected automatic transmission vehicles. Automatic transmission vehicles generally must be "in park" to be started and cannot be started "in gear".
Many (most) manual transmission vehicle could be started if left "in gear" which could result in serious or fatal injuries, so it has been responsible industry practice not to install remote starters on these vehicles.
The DEI 689M Neutral Safety Module was designed so that the manual transmission must be left in neutral and the parking brake set for the remote starter to be "activated".
If the vehicle is left "in gear" or the parking brake is "not set", the 689M prevents the remote starter from being activated.
